What We Believe

Here's who we are …. Our daily devotion is to discover God within us and to reveal more of our true spiritual nature and potential. Our teachings are primarily Religious Science. We are an inclusive spiritual community that honors all paths to the One.

What is New Thought?... New Thought teaches a deliberately optimistic message of unconditional love, possibility, oneness, hope and happiness. By uncovering our inherent potential through the use of affirmative prayer we heal and empower ourselves. We believe that our thoughts are creative and that all thoughts have creative potential according to the feeling and belief behind the thought. We believe that each individual has influence within the Mind of God and that every thought is like a prayer asking for an experience. We understand that physical healing begins in the mind and that this understanding is key to our empowerment and healing.

Our teaching has been likened to spiritual psychology and is based upon ideas from the world's greatest thinkers. We draw upon the wisdom and writings of people such as Thomas Troward, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Ernest Holmes. If you enjoy books by Deepak Chopra, Dr. Wayne Dyer or Eckhart Tolle, you will enjoy our philosophy ad be at home at the Alpine Church of Spiritual Living.

Here's what we think ….God is all there is in the universe. There is only One Power and that is God. God is Intelligence, Energy, Love, Abundance, Joy, Peace and All Good. Each human being is a creation of God, made in Its image and likeness, with the choice of how to use universal principles. There is no devil. Evil is a result of man's misuse of these principles, and not generated by a separate power.

We teach that our experience of life is a mirror image of the consciousness that we hold. We can attract new experiences into our lives by consciously choosing our thoughts and beliefs. Each of us is the author of our own experience.

We support independent, positive, life-giving, affirmative thinking as the approach to even the most difficult of life situations. We deplore judgment and prejudice toward any people no matter what their race, religion or sexual orientation. We are a multi-faith community in the sense that we honor all others' beliefs. Our teaching borrows from many traditions including Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, and other religious and philosophical work. We believe in the teachings of Jesus as the great example – not the great exception. We believe Him when He said, “greater things than these you shall do” and “it is done unto you as you believe”.

Here's what we are not… We do not teach you what to think. We are to a cult devoted to or obsessed with a person or principle. We do not worship a leader or a book, nor do we look to UFO's crystals, or tarot cards to save us. We do not proselytize, evangelize or attempt to convert anyone. We are not the same as Christian Science. We have no association with Scientology. We are not a “New Age” church.
